The second largest children's hospital in London, providing specialised services to London and the South of England. The hospital has a fantastic set-up for acute and emergency paediatrics - with a paediatric emergency department (located on the St Thomas's emergency floor with in-house CT scanner), three intensive care units (Paediatric, Neonatal and Cardiac) and an on-site children's transport and retrieval service. The fast-paced paediatric A&E is staffed by a combination of emergency and paediatric emergency consultants, resident doctors, emergency nurse practitioners and children's nurses. There is a strong emphasis on teaching & training.
Bradford Royal Infirmary serves a deprived inner city population in West Yorkshire. This high intensity children's ED is extremely busy seeing many severely ill patients, often with complex needs. There is great support and liaison with the adult ED and paediatric services. The incredibly hard working nurses, doctors, paramedics and ancillary staff - create an atmosphere of teamwork, resilience and bravery that it was an honour to be a part of.
This tertiary children's hospital ED has dedicated areas for minors, majors, resuscitation and high-care. Staffed by teams of PEM consultants, junior doctors, nurse practitioners and nurses - with GP support - it provides a vital service to a wide geographical area in South Yorkshire. It was a pleasure to work as a locum consultant in this department alongside fantastic teams of colleagues in a high-tech, well equipped dedicated children's hospital environment.
Honored to have worked with UNICEF South Africa on the revision and updating of the South African National Vaccinator Manual.
