NHS 111 Paediatric Consultation Advisory Service - part-time

December 2023 - present

I provide general paediatric and acute care consultations, with cutting-edge telemedicine and video-capabilities, to the parents and carers of unwell children. This is a sessional clinician role for Integrated Care 24 -a non-profit company.

I love this work as it allows me to use the breadth of my expertise to engage in meaningful clinical conversations, advising, managing and treating children from the comfort of their own homes. It is very rewarding to know that using my acumen and judgement I am helping worried parents and sick or injured children get appropriate healthcare quickly and efficiently; reducing the burden on GPs and saving unnecessary trips to the emergency department.

NHS Consultant Paediatric Emergency Locum Roles - part-time

Sheffield Children's Emergency Department (ED) Dec 2022-Oct 2023 (agency) & Mar-Jun 2025 (contract)

This tertiary children's hospital ED is one of only five designated paediatric Major Trauma Centre, receiving major trauma patients <16yr in South Yorkshire. The children's ED has dedicated areas for minors, majors, resuscitation and high-care and a co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit. The PED is staffed by teams of PEM consultants, resident doctors, nurse practitioners and nurses - with on-site GP support in the evenings. It provides a vital service to a wide geographical area in South Yorkshire. It is a real pleasure to work as a locum consultant in this fun, friendly department alongside fantastic teams of colleagues in a high-tech, well equipped dedicated children's hospital environment. I am currently doing a 3-month locum here (March to June 2025) - having previously done several locum periods in the PED:  December 2022 to October 2023 (ad hoc agency locums) and two locum consultant contract posts in 2007-2008 and 2012.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, Paediatric ED, Dec '23 - Aug '24 (bank)

Bradford Royal Infirmary serves a deprived inner city population in West Yorkshire. This high intensity children's ED is extremely busy seeing many severely ill patients, often with complex needs. There is great support and liaison with the adult ED and paediatric services. The incredibly hard working nurses, doctors, paramedics and ancillary staff - create an atmosphere of teamwork, resilience and bravery and it was an honour to work as an NHS Bank Locum member of this team.

Evelina London Children's Hospital ED Oct 2024 to Feb 2025 (contract)

Part of Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, Evelina London is the second largest children's hospital in London, providing specialised services to London and the South of England. The hospital has a fantastic set-up for acute and emergency paediatrics - with a paediatric emergency department (located on the St Thomas's emergency floor with in-house CT scanner),  three intensive care units (Paediatric, Neonatal and Cardiac) and an on-site children's transport and retrieval service. The fast-paced paediatric A&E is staffed by a combination of emergency and paediatric emergency consultants, resident doctors, emergency nurse practitioners and children's nurses. There is a strong emphasis on teaching & training.
